Preserving Haberfield History: Documenting the Stories and Contributions of Immigrants - past and present

ABOUT

The First Generation Aussie project celebrates and shares the stories of first-generation migrants who have or are making significant contributions to the social, economic and cultural growth in Haberfield, Inner West. Documenting historical timeline events and life stories of the first generation who migrated to Australia. This will become inspiring educational resources for current/future generations. There will be e-book publication of portraits and photo essays of historical timeline events and life stories, contributions of the first generation who migrated to Australia.

MISSION

This project supports original research and captures stories of first generation Aussies in Haberfield who have or are playing roles in fostering Inner West's growth and connections to significant events/places. History Collections for use by current/future generations (locals, students, migrants, researchers, government). It strengthens the community inclusivity, connections and engagement; community belonging and pride; and generates opportunities from learning the inspiring stories and the positive working values, sacrifices, innovation, resilience, adaptability, and culture brought by the first-gen migrants to achieve stronger social, economy, culture growth of Haberfield, Inner West in the long term.

If you wish to refer a first generation person from Haberfield who has made significant contributions to the social, economic and cultural growth in Haberfield or Inner West. TERMS

  •  The nominated person must be a First Generation – someone who migrated to Australia from another country
  • Nominating a person does not guarantee the person will feature in the document/photographs/video
  • The nominated person should have made significant contributions to the social, economic and cultural growth in Haberfield, Inner West. 
  • Varied ethnic backgrounds are welcome
  • The Terms can change without notice
